Leoshine has been captured, a pawn in a dangerous game. Honored, even revered, yet prisoner of her brother Wol all the same. Avram pursues Wol, but when he realized Leoshine's plight, he is galvanized to greater action. In the process, he also loses his beloved horse, Paulos, to the lecherous Wol. 

Honor gives way to derision and suffering as Wol drags Leoshine and Paulos through difficult terrain and deadly weather. Avram sends Resham to rescue Leoshine and deal with Wol. 

Nicola MacCameron thrives between hard-won earthy wisdom and flights of spectacular fantasy.
